City Clerk
The City Clerk issues Business Tax Receipts for all businesses located in the City. They are renewable on an annual basis effective October 1; applications are submitted to the City Clerk and following approval by the Building Official and Fire Marshal, the Business Tax Receipt is issued. Costs vary, with the average being $50 per year. Businesses beginning operation after April 1 are issued at one-half the full-year cost.
Home Business Permits are also available for those wishing to operate acceptable businesses from a residential address. A non-refundable $20 fee is required at the time of application and, if approved, the fee must be paid to obtain the permit. Some of the restrictions placed on the issuance of Home Business Permit include no persons other than family members living on the premises, no visible storage, no outside signs, and no generation of noise or traffic greater than that normally generated by a residence.
The City Clerk provides essential services such as keeping the official records, recording and preparing minutes for official meetings, coordinating municipal elections, issuance of business tax receipts, special event permits, and management of zoning and land use notifications.
