Employee of the Year KRISTIN CUSIMANO

EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

In an organization of fifty dedicated employees, singling out just ONE to be recognized and honored as the most outstanding can be difficult, especially when so many epitomize the dedication and caring attitude toward our residents and visitors for which Indian Harbor Beach is known. For 2011, Recreation Director Kristin Cusimano has been chosen as the recipient of the City’s prestigious Employee of the Year Award.

Employed by the City for six and one-half years now, Kristin was promoted to her current position in February of 2009, when our very special former director, Ann Scott, retired. Kristin hit the ground running and has introduced many innovative programs, including the wonderful summer camp begun last year.  Given the harsh economic conditions faced by working parents seeking affordable and safe programs during summer break, she implemented our City-sponsored, all-day summer camp. A great idea, the camp has been a huge success, not only filling the void for families with children, but also providing summer jobs for some thirty to forty individuals – another plus for our local economy. Currently well into its second season, the summer camp, along with our always popular swim lessons for all ages, are responsible for spreading joy in our community.

Kristin demonstrates strong initiative – identifying a need or specific enhancement, researching the pros and cons, seeking approval and carrying the ideas to fruition. (The new round tables available for functions in our main facility, the planned lift-assist for physically challenged pool users, the improvements to the exercise stations and additional play areas throughout the park all reflect her thoughtful input and direction.) Hers is, at times, a thankless position in attempting to satisfy or placate so many groups with diverse needs and wants, while ensuring that the city’s requirements and budget constraints remain first and foremost in her considerations. While there are many of our City’s signature special events that are held throughout the year (Christmas in the Park, Breakfast With the Easter Bunny, Halloween Haunted House, the City Art Show, Little League and Soccer Association festivities, Swim Team functions, dance recitals, etc.) there are also countless charitable events, private parties, triathlons, weddings and other celebrations scheduled at our various facilities and parks, all requiring the director’s coordination and oversight to ensure the safety, enjoyment and propriety of events and participants. Kristin also works very effectively in cooperation with fellow department heads and in directing her dedicated staff.

For all of the aforementioned reasons and more, Kristin Cusimano is the City of Indian Harbour Beach Employee of the year for 2011!
