Employee of the Year Award – Having grown up right here in Indian Harbour Beach, Todd Scaldo began his career with the City in 1986, working in general maintenance for our Public Works Department. In December of 1988, Todd left our employ in order to obtain his college degree. After graduating from the University of Florida with a B.A. in Political Science, Todd returned to Indian Harbour Beach and again joined our Public Works Department in 1994. In 2005, he was promoted by Public Works Director Lou Giacona to the position of Public Works Supervisor. Director Giacona praises Todd’s leadership roles in conducting the department’s safety meetings, his coordination of the maintenance teams’ duties, his instructional, team building and communications skills, and his outstanding motivation, initiative and dedicated service to the City and her citizens. In addition to his formal employment, Todd has also served our City as a dedicated volunteer firefighter for over 20 years. During that time, he has distinguished himself by winning numerous awards, including Fire Corporation Man of the Year in 2003 and the most-coveted award, Firefighter of the Year, in 2004. In 2005, I appointed Todd as the City’s Fire Chief, succeeding Chief Pat Fallon, In that position, Todd has continually worked to raise the bar in all aspects of our wonderful department, from the quality of our volunteers and their training, to our state-of-the-art vehicles and equipment, and multiple improvements to the firehouse itself. All of his efforts and those of the other volunteers truly paid off this year when our Fire Department earned the exemplary ISO rating of 3 – one of the highest in Brevard County! For the many hats he wears, and his truly outstanding service to the City of Indian Harbour Beach, it is my honor and pleasure to present the City Manager’s Award for the Employee of the Year for 2008 to Todd Scaldo. |
